Agentic software development is a way of building software in which AI coding agents, such as Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex and Gemini, plan, write, test and refactor code autonomously across a codebase, while the developer sets the requirements, reviews the work, handles architecture and production, and is accountable for the result. It differs from autocomplete (suggestions) and from 'vibe coding' (unreviewed generation) by keeping engineering rigour in the loop.
What changed in 2025–26
Code completion suggested a line. Agents take a ticket, read the repository, plan a change across files, run the tests, fix the failures and open a pull request. On well-run teams, the majority of committed code is now written by an agent and reviewed by a human. The scarce skill is no longer typing syntax; it is:
- writing a PRD or spec precise enough that an agent can execute it,
- decomposing work into steps an agent can verify,
- reviewing generated code for security, performance and intent,
- owning deployment, debugging and production, where agents are weakest.
Developers who learn this workflow ship complete products in weeks. Those who only prompt without engineering produce demos that break in production.
The agentic development loop
- SpecifyA PRD with scope, data model, acceptance criteria and non-goals. Vague specs produce confident, wrong code.
- Plan with the agentAsk for an implementation plan; correct it before any code is written.
- Implement in small verified stepsThe agent writes code and tests; CI runs; you review diffs, not prose.
- IntegrateDatabases, auth, third-party APIs, cloud infra: the parts that need judgement.
- Deploy & observeDocker, CI/CD, AWS/Azure, logging. Production debugging stays a human skill.
- Document & hand overAgents are excellent at documentation if asked; shipped, documented software is the deliverable.

Jobs and salaries for AI-native developers
Demand for developers did not fall; the bar moved. Companies want engineers who deliver whole features with agents, and start-ups want product engineers who can ship a SaaS alone. Salaries below are for India, 2026.
Roadmap: become an AI-native developer
Which Aegis path fits you?
Learn agentic development at Aegis
The Aegis AI Agentic Software Developer Bootcamp is a three-month, full-time, on-campus program in Mumbai in which students ship a deployable enterprise-style application (CRM, LMS, marketplace, hospital management and more) with Claude, Gemini, Codex and Cursor on AWS and Azure. Domain experts who want agents for their own work should look at the Agentic Professional.
AI Agentic Software Developer Bootcamp
3 months · Full-time on campus · AWS + Azure
Ship production software with Claude, Gemini, Codex and Cursor. 90% practical, capstone-driven.
Aegis programThe Agentic Professional
20 hours · Lab + theory · Privacy-first
Domain experts build private, governed AI agents on their own machine with Ollama, n8n and MCP.
Frequently asked questions
Will AI coding agents replace software developers?
They replace typing, not engineering. Teams still need people to specify, review, integrate, deploy and debug. Developers who use agents well are more productive and better paid; those who refuse to are at risk.
What is vibe coding and why is it risky?
Vibe coding is generating applications from prompts without reading or testing the code. It is excellent for prototypes and dangerous in production: security holes, broken data handling and code nobody can maintain.
Which AI coding agent should I learn?
Learn the workflow, not one tool. Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex and Gemini share the same loop: spec, plan, implement, test, review. The Aegis bootcamp uses all of them.
Do I need a computer science degree?
No. The bootcamp admits engineers and graduates from any discipline who are willing to work full-time for three months; what matters is shipping the capstone.
What salary can an AI-native full-stack developer expect in India?
Indicatively ₹5–11 LPA entry, ₹11–24 LPA mid and ₹24–42+ LPA senior in 2026, with AI application developers and product engineers at the higher end.
